Don't waste money on document management for iPad

From bitter experience, it is easy to buy into a whole load of back end products that are sold to 'help' integrate iPad into your Windows environment...stop wasting your money and time!

There are a number of great products that you can pay for that will help you manage files and content, but there are also a number of free things that you should try first...to prove the concept...as it were. Lets have a look...

One of the difficulties every school I have worked with has, is making sure the solution is flexible enough to satisfy most 'backend' or third party systems. I think I may have found a nice, free, solution...or at least something to try.

It is not publicised by resellers, as it makes no money for them...It isn't pushed by other brands, as it supports competitors...but it seems to work rather nicely! And it is called... Documents!

All that is needed is to install the free app onto your devices, then attach the app to whatever storage solution you want to use... done.

Once you have attached the app to your preferred storage, you can share created content from pretty much any app (at least the core 'Office' apps plus a few more that I have tested) by using the share icon, then 'Open In' Documents.

On student devices it is much the same, it certainly works well within Primary school setups (bookable sync and charge sets) where students use a standard / non personalised device. You will need to get your IT guys to create a 'general user' account, but other than that its a fairly simple process for them to setup.

I am working with about 200 schools at the moment, helping them with this sort of thing. I am happy to talk about this etc (Im not pushing sales) I just want to make sure you all are making the most from not only your tech, but your investments!

As always it would be great if you could comment below, I'd love to know what you think about this. Im all about the workflows, and not about wooing people with apps, but this does tick a few boxes!!! If you would like to follow me on twitter, find me here. Or email me here.

We have a conference coming up in the next few weeks covering this in more detail and also looking at Literacy and Numeracy in the curriculum, it would be great to see you there! If you would like to sign up click this link!
